Antique Copper Lizard Skin Jug

This unusual antique Arts and Crafts copper jug has a distinctive lizard skin appearance. Most likely used as a hot water jug, it was made by Joseph Sankey and Sons, around 1900. Joseph Sankey was born in England in 1827. After his father’s death, he took verthe company in 1861 and his son, John William joined him in 1871.

The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international trend in decorative and fine arts from 1880 – 1920. It was a movement against the Industrial Revolution which was considered impersonal and mechanised. It sought to return to a simpler, more fulfilling way of living, emphasising the use of high-quality materials and a focus on utility and design.

The jug is 14.5 cms across at the base and it is 27 cms in height.
